New ECR Committee Member!
Please join us in warmly welcoming our new committee member, Oriane Poret! Oriane is a PhD candidate in Art History at Université Lyon 2, France. After contributing to the 2022 Rosa Bonheur monographic exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay, she embarked on her doctoral research under the guidance of Pr. Laurent Baridon. Her dissertation explores the role and place of animals in Rosa Bonheur's artistic practice, with a focus on their status as models. Her work involves a thorough overhaul of studies of inter-species collaborations in nineteenth-century art, using a methodological approach derived from animal studies and art history. Expanding her analysis, Oriane examines the work of other European artists who shared similar attitudes towards animals.
Her research is generously supported by the Fondation des Amis pour le Rayonnement des Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie and Université Lyon 2. Oriane has presented her work at various international conferences on 19th-century animal issues relating to art and has contributed to exhibition catalogs for institutions such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Barnes Foundation.
We are so looking forward to collaborating with Oriane, and can’t wait for you to see the fabulous (and early) nineteenth-century programming she has in store!
